ABED 4118 - Web Page Design

Required Text: You will be given on-line access to Web Page Design With DreamWeaver 4.0, An Interactive Text (Draft), by Marc D. Miller, and Thomas C. Padgett, along with accompaning on-line tutorials and quizzes. You may wish to purchase the Student version of Dreamweaver 4 software from Macromedia so that you can complete the course assignments from home. This software is available from Macromedia for $99.
Description: The purpose of this course is to acquaint students with layout and design concepts of creating web pages. The concept of design plays an intricate role in creating successful web pages. In addition the student will become familiar with software that will make it possible to incorporate all of the major features of web page design into the pages that are created. This particular section of the course will be offered totally on-line to students at the State University of West Georgia and at Autusta State University, using course materials and software developed by Dr. Marc D. Miller at Augusta and Dr. Thomas C. Padgett at West Georgia. Dreamweaver 4.0 is used as the primary tool for the course because it is generally recognized as an outstanding tool for Web page development.
Learning Outcomes: At the end of the course, the student will be able to:

(4) Use Graphics and Images in Web Page Design D1, A3
(5) Use Interactive Forms in Web Pages D1, A3
(6) Use Frames in Web Pages D1, A3Grading Policy: Students will receive a course grade based on various aspects of work, weighted as follows:

This course is totally on-line. Except for the final exam, all of the work can be done from home if you have Dreamweaver 4.0 software. The software will be made available to you in the West Georgia College of Business and Augusta State College of Business computer labs if you don't have it at home. You will be given a series of assignments that include readings and exercises concerning concepts of Web page design and you will apply these concepts by creating and pulbishing a variety of Web pages. You will also be given on-line quizzes that cover the concepts involved in the assignments. All assignments and quizzes must be completed by the due date in order to get credit for them. There will be a comprehensive final exam, to be scheduled later, which will be given in the West Georga and Augusta computer labs under the supervision of an instructor.
WebCT will be used to deliver the course. You will have the WebCT bulletin board and private mail available at all times for communication with the instructor. As a general rule, I will check the bulletin board and email several times a day, and you should check them frequently for special instruction and changes. The chat room will also be available at times for real-time communication with the instructor and other members of the class. I (Padgett) will be the primary instructor for the class, but Dr. Miller will be assisting at times from Augusta.
The schedule shown below is a tentative outline of assignments and deadlines. I reserve the right to make modifications if I see a need to do so. You will be notified in advance of any changes with a message on the bulletin board. Details of each assignment will be posted on the assignments page of WebCT. I will be posting these details as we go along. Generally, the assignments will consist of Web pages that incorporate the concepts covered in the chapters and lessons. The final assignment will be a major project that puts it all together.
