Col. Margarita Aponte is the Deputy Commander for Nursing at Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Fort Gordon.
She is a Ph.D. candidate in Nursing Administration at George Mason University in Arlington, and holds an M.S. in Nursing from Texas Woman University in Texas, and a B.S. in Nursing from Catholic University of Puerto Rico.

She has served in the U.S. Army since 1978, and her clinical specialty is critical care nursing.

Aponte is the author of several papers on nursing including Access and Quality of Care Among Minorities, and received a grant for The Role of Mentoring in the Career Advancement of Hispanic Army Nurses.

She is a member of the American Nurses Association, Maryland Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau International, and the National Association of Hispanic Nurses.
