Dr. Sunita Manian

Dr. Sunita Manian currently is an Associate Professor of Political Economy and Coordinator of the Interdisciplinary Studies Program at Georgia College and State University. She came to GCSU from Wesleyan College where, in addition to being on the Economics faculty, she was also the Director of Women's Studies. Her area of research focuses on gender and economic development as it pertains to South Asia. In particular she studies the role played by socio-economic and political arrangements on the relative power of women in intra-familial decision making regarding the distribution of resources. Dr. Manian's research methodology uses axiomatic game-theory as well as qualitative research drawing from interviews with organized and unorganized workers in Kolkatta, India, and Bangladeshi immigrants in London, UK.
