Dr. Mary McCormack
Dr. Mary
McCormack received her B.A. in English from Emory University.
She completed her graduate work at the University of South Carolina,
receiving an M.A. in Creative Writing, followed by a Ph. D. in English
Literature in 1998. She is Associate Professor of English at Augusta
State University and Associate Chair of the Department of Languages,
Literature, and Communications. She taught previously at the University
of South Carolina and at Georgia Institute of Technology.
Dr. McCormack's
research interests began with her specialization in 20th
century British literature and her major figure, Doris Lessing. Doris
Lessing was born to a settler family in Southern Rhodesia, a British
colony. After emigrating to Great Britain, Lessing has written about
the effects of colonialism in various genres, including science
fiction. Dr. McCormack also writes about the connections between
science and literature in contemporary texts.
