Agenda items: New Business

President Bloodworth proposed that the FPC consider the retention and graduation rates at ASU. If it chooses to work on the issue, the president would like recommendations from the FPC for improving both rates. The issue has immediate relevance in light of the forthcoming publication of system-wide rates, which President Bloodworth distributed to the FPC. Bill Dodd provided a 2001-2002 retention rate chart.

Following this charge, the committee discussed options and methodology for the work.

Bill Dodd will produce a printout breaking out all full time sophomores, juniors, and seniors, request a copy of Jackie Stewart’s Non-Returning Student Survey results, obtain a copy of the Student Satisfaction Survey, and request a copy of the results from focus group work done by the Research Center. Board of Regents strategic goals for this year will also be distributed.

Old Business

1. Employee Benefits Tracking – Personnel did provide more retirement option information to faculty based on the FPC’s request. The data included in the new handout was good, but the chart distributed last year by Andy Hauger was clearer. Therefore, the same handout will be copied and sent to new faculty. More changes will be discussed at the September 16 meeting.

2. Promotion and Tenure Reevaluation–Bill Reese met with VPAA Sam Sullivan to provide a list of minor changes based on Jim Benedict’s letter of last spring. Reese will bring other changes, which are policy oriented, to the FPC for consideration.

3. Athletics Committee Concern – Athletics suggested six students as the appropriate number for the Athletics Committee membership.
