Agenda items:

1. Textbook Resale by Faculty

Dan Whitfield presented a summary of the history of rules relating to on-campus resale of textbooks by faculty to vendors. Current policy, for safety and security reasons, prohibits vendors from coming to campus. The bookstore volunteered to host a vendor’s appearance each year to buy books, as a service to the campus. They make less than $1000 per year by providing the service. Follett was chosen as the vendor based on the prices they offer and their service quality. Whitfield suggested that vendors could be rotated if there were a concern of monopoly.

The primary problem, however, seems to be the solicitation policy, not bookstore participation. Therefore, the FPC will review the policy.

2. Sexual Harassment Committee Policy

University Committee review of the proposed Sexual Harassment Policy provided suggested changes. Rather than delay implementation of the policy by sending it back through committee, the UC passed the policy and will allow the document to go to the floor of the faculty meeting with proposed amendments. The FPC reviewed the suggested changes and will have the revised document prepared for the faculty meeting.

3. Topic for Next Year’s FPC

The student appeals process only covers academic matters. It should cover academic and non-academic matters.
