Faculty Policies Committee Minutes
Members present: Marc Miller, Pam Hayward, Peggy Ruth Geren, Tom Crute, Bruce Saul, Wendy Turner and Katherine Sweeney
Marc Miller called the meeting to order at 3:10 pm. The minutes of March 28 were approved unanimously as posted to the FPC intranet (with one editorial change).
Faculty Elections-Bruce Saul reported that roughly 50% of the faculty took part in the election process this year and voting was evenly split between voting online and voting in the Library. Pam Jackson, Andy Hauger, Donna Hobbs, Mike Searles, Rick Pukis and Bob Reeves were elected to serve on FPC. Peggy Ruth Geren, Bruce Saul, Wayne Mixon, Barry Thompson, Jana Sandarg and Pam Hayward will be returning for a second year of service. Marc will invite the new members to attend the last FPC meeting of this year on April 18.
Promotion and Tenure town hall meeting-Those FPC members who were able to attend the forum thought it went well. FPC held a general discussion concerning the forum and the various points of view expressed there. The ideas of an advocate for faculty going up for promotion and/or tenure and enlarging the Promotion and Tenure Committee seemed to have the most support at the forum. Procedures at other institutions were also discussed. Marc will draft a position statement that the current FPC will pass to next year’s committee. This will give next year’s committee a starting place for further discussion and/or action.
The meeting was adjourned at
Respectfully submitted,
