Faculty Policies Committee Minutes

10 October 2005

Members present: Peggy Ruth Geren, Pam Hayward, Donna Hobbs, Pam Jackson, Rick Pukis, Bob Reeves, Bruce Saul, Mike Searles, Barry Thompson, Cathy Tugmon

•  Peggy Ruth Geren called the meeting to order at 3:00 pm.

•  The committee unanimously approved minutes from 3 October 05.

•  Peggy Ruth will send out agenda topics to the faculty prior to the FPC weekly meeting.

•  Therese Rosier spoke with the FPC about air quality on campus and impending plans to sample air in several buildings. After a discussion about progress made over the past few years, Ms. Rosier said that she will keep the FPC informed of the results of the future air sampling.

•  The FPC discussed student retention and was reminded about the Phi Kappa Phi event that will cover that subject on 20 October. Katherine Sweeney will visit on 17 October to help us answer some questions. The FPC also discussed advising as part of the current Faculty Role Model.

•  The FPC subcommittee on faculty appointment to campus committees will meet again to make a few more changes. Rick Pukis is working with ITS to streamline the entire selection process. The FPC also discussed maintaining continuity in this subcommittee as new members were added. Another topic of concern was student involvement on campus committees. The FPC is interested in finding more students who are interested in contributing to the committees after they have been appointed.

•  Peggy Ruth asked the FPC to look more closely at campus committee structure. She will send a memo to each campus committee chair and see if they have suggestions for their structure and purpose.

•  Peggy Ruth said that the Deans and Academic Vice President will be invited to the New Faculty Luncheon next year.

•  The meeting was adjourned at 4:15pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Bruce Saul

Secretary
