Faculty Policies Committee Minutes

24 October 2005

Members present: Peggy Ruth Geren, Pam Hayward, Donna Hobbs, Wayne Mixon, Rick Pukis, Bob Reeves, Jana Sandarg, Bruce Saul, Mike Searles, Cathy Tugmon

•  Peggy Ruth called the meeting to order at 3:00 pm.

•  The FPC unanimously approved minutes from 17 October 05.

•  The FPC reviewed the results of our meeting with Katherine Sweeney and decided to invite Cindy Craig and Kathy Thompson to follow up with more student retention information. The FPC will produce a summary when discussions have been completed.

•  Cathy Tugmon noted that assigning JagIDs to our students could impact tracking them when they leave ASU to enroll in other universities. Peggy Ruth will determine if that will be a potential problem.

•  Rick Pukis said that Cathy Barner or a representative from ITS will visit the FPC next week to discuss options to help us with the campus committee selection process.

•  Jana Sandarg has scheduled a meeting of her student activities subcommittee to discuss campus issues.

•  The FPC reviewed some concerns about faculty parking. Peggy Ruth will discuss the topic with President Bloodworth at their next meeting.

•  Peggy Ruth led a discussion about expected student behavior in the classroom. It was agreed that student behavior in class was disappointing. The FPC will review this topic next week.

•  The FPC reviewed information from our subcommittee on faculty appointment to the newly reorganized Lyceum Committee. Peggy Ruth will handle the adjustments to the published list which will be concluded next week.

•  The meeting was adjourned at 4:15pm.
