1. Minutes of the April 16 meeting were approved without changes

2. Committee members discussed briefly their reactions to the visit last week from Drs. Bloodworth and Sullivan. Points noted included the need to acquire a copy of the ASU strategic plan for the committee; use of the faculty list serve to disseminate ideas; the need for some mechanism to create a shared-vision for the school among all on-campus constituencies; and a few reminders for the new chair.

3. The 2008-2009 members unanimously elected Carol Rychly of the Math Department as the chair for the coming year and Sam Myers as the secretary.

Respectfully submitted,

Debbie van Tuyll

Secretary

The was a general discussion about the time for next year’s meeting, since it conflicts with Jennifer Onofrio’s schedule which is difficult to adjust.  The conclusion was that since the rest of the committee had already adjusted their schedules, there was no other appropriate time to hold the meeting. Jennifer was encouraged to speak to her chair about the benefits of having a representative from Art on the committee and the precedent of changing the schedule to accommodate the committee.  If her chair cannot make it work, the next person on the list will be asked.

The following subcommittees were assigned:

Mentor/Mentee luncheon:  Charles Jackson, Sam Myers, Robert Smalley, Carol Rychly

Committee on Committees: Jim Benedict, Charles Jackson, Jana Sandarg, Tom Crute, Carol Rychly

In addition to returning members, the following subcommittees added

                        Student Grievances and Behavior—Tom Crute

Elections—Jennifer Onofrio, Jana Sandarg, Steven Weiss

                        Committee Survey—Wayne Mixon

                        ITS—TBA

Jim asked the status of Cullum.  The new members were informed of the resolution sent by this year’s committee and that the ’08 Cullum was cancelled.  Since no topic was approved for the ’09 Cullum, it is assumed it also will not take place.  Carol was reminded to remind VP Sullivan that it has been left to him to make some decisions regarding the status of Cullum.

FPC will not meet next week.  However, the Committee on Committees will meet at 2:30 pm Monday April 30 in the Math department Conference Room.
