Faculty Policies Committee Minutes
March 9, 2009
Members present: Ted Atkinson, Rob Bledsoe, Tom Crute, Paula Dohoney, Wally Evans, Mark Fissel, Wayne Mixon, Jana Sandarg, Bruce Saul, Mike Searles, Robert Smalley, Steve Weiss.
1)† Tom called the FPC Committee to order at 2:35pm.
2)† Minutes from 2March were approved after corrections were accepted. They will be posted soon.
3) Rob gave an Election Subcommittee summary noting that the sample ballot will be available next week and the election process will begin the week of 23March.
4)† Markís Student Code of Conduct Subcommittee presented its draft proposal. Discussion topics included: basic recommendations for student conduct on campus; distinction between high school and college behaviors; expectations of language use on campus; establishment of standards of conduct; linkage of verbiage with appropriate Jaguar Student Handbook sections; addition of materials mandated by faculty; and creating a section dedicated to Information Technology Services policies. The FPC members thanked Mark and his Subcommittee for their extensive labor on this project. Recommended wording changes will be inserted and the Committee will review the proposal again next week.
5) The FPC briefly reviewed some of the Study Abroad Procedures Subcommitteeís changes from last week. Topics included: SABR equivalents for inclusion in the ASU Catalog; recommendations for student study time; and review of a SABR flow chart that Tom created to help clarify the process. More discussions will occur next week.
6) Tom led a discussion concerning a request from the local chapter President of the American Association of University Professors.
7) Other items will be moved to the meeting on 16March09.
