Regulations for Learning Support

1. During each semester of enrollment, all Learning Support students, including those attending part-time, must first register for all required Learning Support courses before being allowed to register for other courses.

Two exceptions are possible:

a. When two or three Learning Support areas are required and a student is enrolled in at least one Learning Support course, a freshman orientation course or physical education or other activity or performance courses may be taken that semester instead of one of the required Learning Support courses.

b. In the event that a required Learning Support course is not offered, a student may enroll in a course for degree credit if the student has met the course prerequisites, subject to the written approval of the Chair of Learning Support.

2. Until individual Learning Support requirements have been satisfied, students will not be permitted to take credit courses which assume the content or the skills of a student's required Learning Support courses as prerequisites:

MATH 0096, 0097 and 0099 are prerequisites for MATH 1101, 1111, and all BIOL courses.
ENGL 0097 and 0099 are prerequisites for ENGL 1101 and all BIOL courses.
READ 0097 and 0099 are prerequisites for ENGL 1101 and all BIOL courses.
READ 0097 is prerequisite to ASUO 1000.

(ENGL 0090, ENGL 0091, READ 0090, READ 0091 are all prerequisites to ENGL 1101.)

In addition, students who are enrolled in READ 0097 may only enroll in the following credit courses:

MATH courses, FINC 1410, COMD 2500, COMD 2510, all 1000 level MUSA (Applied Music) courses, ART 1520, ART 1530, ART 1211, MUSI 1211, MUSI 1212, MUSI 1101, MUSI 1102, MUSI 1620/3620, MUSI 1630/3630, MUSI 1610/3610, MUSI 1500, MUSI 1501/3501, MUSI 1502/3502, MUSI 4690, MUSI 4650, MUSI 4620, MUSI 3660, MUSI 4680, MUSI 4640, MUSI 4610, MUSI 3551, all 1000 and 2000 level MILS (Military Science) courses, all physical education activity courses (including WELL 1000).

Students enrolled in READ 0099 may enroll in the courses listed above and in:

ASUO 1000, COMS 1010, and COMS 1020.

3. A student who has accumulated twenty (20) semester hours of academic credit and has not completed all Learning Support requirements may enroll only in Learning Support courses until the remaining requirements are met.

4. Students who do not complete the requirements for passing each required area of Learning Support after a maximum of three (3) attempts per area, or two (2) attempts at an area without satisfactorily completing the non-exit level course in the area, will be suspended from the institution. Students may not be considered for readmission within three years of the suspension.

An attempt is defined as a semester in which a student receives any grade or symbol except "W."

5. No degree credit is earned in Learning Support though institutional credit is awarded. Time spent in Learning Support course work is cumulative within the system, as is the number of attempts per area.
Students with transfer credit or credit earned as a certificate student may be granted up to a total of three attempts at an area of Learning Support.

6. The following grade symbols are used in Augusta State University’s Learning Support courses:

S = satisfactory (passed course work, passed institutional requirement, passed COMPASS)
IP = Insufficient progress (passed course work, passed institutional requirement,
failed COMPASS)
U = unsatisfactory (failed course work/ ineligible to attempt institutional
requirement or failed institutional requirement/ineligible to attempt COMPASS); withdrawal failing (withdrawal after mid-term; counted as an attempt)
W = withdrawal before midterm (not counted as an attempt)
V = audit (volunteer enrollment only)

7. Students enrolled in both Learning Support and      credit courses may not withdraw or be withdrawn from a Learning Support course with a W unless they also withdraw or are withdrawn from all credit courses.

8.  Effective Fall Semester 2008, all students with Learning Support requirements must enroll in ASUO 1000 and earn a "C" or better in the course.
