Joint Enrollment (High School) Admissions Requirements
A qualified high school junior or senior may take college courses while also completing requirements for graduation from high school. This type of enrollment is designed to offer academically-gifted high school students the opportunity to take courses not available in the high school curriculum.
Admission Criteria
To be eligible for admission consideration, joint enrollment students must have completed the sophomore year of high school, be at least 16 years of age and have:
- An overall high school GPA of 3.0 in courses taken from the required 16 College Preparatory Curriculum (CPC) units.
- A combined SAT score of 1100 or higher (or equivalent ACT scores), including a minimum 530 Critical Reading and /or Math subscores to take those respective courses.
- Completion of an Accel Form.
- A personal interview with a university admissions officer.
- Completion of a Joint Enrollment Clearance Form
Students with SAT scores of at least 530, or ACT English score of 23 who have not completed the final unit of high school English and/or social studies, may be permitted to fulfill these high school requirements with the appropriate college courses taken through the joint enrollment program.
Students with SAT mathematics scores of at least 530 or ACT mathematics scores of at least 22 who have not completed the final unit of mathematics may be permitted to fulfill those high school requirements with the appropriate college courses taken through the joint enrollment program.
Generally joint enrollment students will have completed their CPC math requirements before their senior year and will be prepared to take pre-calculus or a higher level math course. Students should be aware that, while college algebra, math modeling, or statistics may be taken through joint enrollment, these courses will not apply toward a college degree in science, engineering, computer science, and many other fields. High school advanced algebra/trig taken in high school should provide better preparation for majors requiring calculus and should be taken no later than the 11th grade.
Other college courses may be used to fulfill CPC requirements if those courses are not offered at the high school. These courses must meet the approval of the local high school and board of education.
