Where are you?

If you are now at the point of having earned between thirty and thirty-nine hours, then you should begin a period of confirming your selected educational goals. Remember you are required to declare a major by forty semester hours, so you should have a specific target major in mind to enable you to make more informed choices as you select classes. You may declare your major at any time by completing a Change of Major form on ELROY or in Student Records in Payne Hall.

What are you doing?

You may find it useful to retrace your steps through previous activities with your selected goals in mind. With your new perspective, you may discover a sense of comfort and familiarity as you review your intended major.

The following activities may help you review your target selection and confirm your choice before declaring:

• Continue working through the Major Decisions guide and schedule an appointment with a UMAC Advisor to discuss your progress.
• Revisit the Academic Department offering your target major with additional clarifying questions for faculty and other departmental representatives.
• Revisit the Career Center with questions to learn more about the occupational outlook for your target field.
• Interview Professionals working in your target field and talk to seniors and recent graduates in the major you plan to pursue.

As you finish these steps, you should be ready to declare your major. Confirming your selection prepares you for an easier transition to your major by expanding your knowledge and affirming your commitment.
