ADV102:

Student Athletes

Advising Support from UMAC

Student athletes are expected to abide by the same set of academic rules and regulations as all other students at Augusta State University. Athletes must also follow NCAA rules for eligibility which are even stricter in some areas. All student athletes are expected to be familiar with the requirements necessary for NCAA eligibility.

To maintain eligibility, athletes must show 24 semester hours of academic progress each academic year. This would be an average of 12 hours each semester if the student does not attend Summer term. Up to 6 semester hours of eligible coursework taken during the Summer term may count toward academic progress for the preceding academic year. Student athletes should consider the effect withdrawing from a class will have not only on their academic progress but also on their athletic eligibility and discuss withdrawal with both professor and coach prior to withdrawing.

As with all students, athletes are students first and are responsible for their own educational plan and progress. Questions regarding the eligibility requirements of student athletes may be directed to Dr. Donna Hobbs, (706)737-1541, Faculty Representative to the NCAA.
