Departmental Advising/Registration Procedures

Advising Support from UMAC

Students should always check with their advising department for current advising/registering procedures. The following is a general overview.

Katherine Reese Pamplin College of Arts & Sciences

Biology (Science (706) 737-1539)

Advisors are assigned to students according to the students’ major or concentration (see posting in suite). Appointment sheets for 15 minute advising sessions are posted on each advisor’s office door approximately one week before priority registration. Appointments must be made 24 hours in advance.

Chemistry & Physics (Science (706) 737-1541)

Advisors are assigned alphabetically by major (see list posted outside secretary’s office). Appointment sheets for 15 minute advising sessions are posted on each advisor’s office door one week before priority registration. Appointments must be made 24 hours in advance. Students should be referred to the departmental secretary.

Fine Arts (FAC (706) 737-1453)

Students are assigned advisors according to their concentration. Students needing assistance should be referred to the departmental secretary. Each Art advisor posts an appointment sheet approximately one week before priority registration. Each Music advisor makes appointments privately.

History & Anthropology (SH-2nd (706) 737-1709)

No advising assignments are made. Advising appointments may be scheduled through the departmental secretary or by signing the appointment sheet posted on each advisor’s door.

Languages, Literature, & Communications (BH (706) 737-1500)

Advisors are assigned by the chairperson according to concentration. Students needing assistance should be referred to the secretary. Although each advisor posts an appointment sheet, an advisor from each concentration is available throughout priority registration week.

Learning Support/University College (HH-2nd (706) 737-1685)

Learning Support/University College advises and registers according to a different schedule. Students should be referred to the departmental secretary. (Students in the Learning Support/University College programs may not register on ELROY or ASTRO.)

Math & Computer Science (HH (706) 737-1672)

Advisors are assigned within each major by classification and alphabetically (see posting in department). Advisors post appointment sheets the week before priority registration.

Nursing (SH (706) 737-1725)

Students are alphabetically assigned to an advisor (see posting in department). Throughout the term, advisors maintain weekly schedule/appointment sheets which are posted on their office doors. Students should be referred to the chair or departmental secretary.

Political Science (SH-2nd (706) 737-1710)

No advising assignments are made. No advising appointments are scheduled for priority registration. An advisor is available in the department throughout priority registration week.

Psychology (Science (706) 737-1694)

Advisors are assigned alphabetically (see posting in suite). Appointment sheets are posted on each advisor’s door 3 days prior to priority registration.

Sociology (HH-2nd (706) 737-1735)

Advisors are assigned (see posting in suite). Appointment sheets are posted on each advisor’s door prior to priority registration.

Undeclared Majors Advising Center Center (Washington Hall-3rd (706) 731-7979)

the Center advises undecided undergraduates with less than 40 semester hours earned. Advisors are available throughout the term by appointment. The center begins early advising appointments about two weeks prior to priority registration week. Due to the volume of students served, advisees are seen on a first come basis during peak registration periods (no appointments). the Center also advises and registers Joint Enrolled high school students according to the published campus schedule.

Students needing assistance should be referred to the Undergraduate Advising Office.

College of Education

Kinesiology & Health Science (PEAC (706) 737-1468)

Students needing assistance should be referred to the chair or departmental secretary.

Teacher Education ( (706) 737-1496)

Clinical & Professional Studies ( (706) 737-1497)

The programs offered and the assigned advisors' names are posted in the College of Education suite. Appointment sheets are posted on each advisor's office door two days before priority registration.
