Jeff Foley and Chip Matson receive joint appointments at ASU, GHSU

 

Jeff Foley, assistant vice president for campus development, and Chip Matson, director and chief information officer of Information Technology Services, have been named to joint appointments at Augusta State University and Georgia Health Sciences University.

Foley has been named the Vice President for Military and Global Affairs.
According to Foley, in this new role he will be focused on developing strategic relationships that will greatly enhance our service to military personnel and internationalization.

He will continue work on food service master planning, coordination with the foundation, as well as being engaged with the Fort Gordon Liaison committee.

Throughout his 32-year military career, Foley held a variety of staff positions including director of Architecture, Operations, Networks, and Space at the Pentagon. While serving at Fort Gordon, he managed organizations at all levels including overseeing 25,000 military and civilian employees and a budget over $380 million. He also played an important role in creating closer relationships between Fort Gordon and the Augusta community by promoting military involvement with area schools, churches, cultural and sporting events, non-profits, and neighborhood associations.

He has received numerous awards including the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Southwest Asia Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals, and the Army Achievement Medal.

Foley earned a bachelor’s degree from the United States Military Academy and obtained master’s degrees in computer systems from the U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology and in national security and strategic studies from the National Defense University.

 

Matson will now serve as the new Interim Associate Vice President of Information Technology Operations.

He will be working with the Technology Services staff members from both universities while helping lead the consolidation of the information technology systems between the two campuses.
Matson is no stranger to GHSU; he served as a director in the information systems department for the Medical College of Georgia before joining ASU in 2000.

He earned both bachelor and master degrees from Augusta State, and has been involved in leadership positions within the University System of Georgia for a number of years. He has served as the chair of the University System of Georgia’s CIO Council, the chair of the Security Advisory Group, a member of the Audit Advisory Committee, and the Emergency Operations Planning Committee.

Chip is active in a number of local community organizations including the United Way, Masters Table Soup Kitchen, Community Foundation for the CSRA, Kiwanis Club of Augusta, and St. John United Methodist Church. Matson also is a 2008 graduate of Leadership Augusta.
