Phil Wahl is no stranger to Augusta State University. In 1987 he earned his bachelor of business administration with a concentration in management from Augusta College. He serves on the Business Advisory Board of the James M. Hull College of Business and was recently selected to serve as a Trustee of the Augusta State University Foundation. One of Phil's most recent leadership opportunities came this spring, when he was asked to chair the A Day for ASU campaign. As chair, Phil has set a goal for the campaign at $500,000.
"It is truly hard to believe that 20 years have passed since I stood by the 'Tear Drop' outside of Markert Hall, meeting with fellow classmates to discuss the results of our management and finance finals and planning which campus event we would take part in that afternoon or evening. The ASU campus has experienced enormous improvements over the past 20 years, gone is Markert Hall, the 'Tear Drop', and the 'Arsenal Oak', but ever-present are the memories, experiences, friendships, and lessons learned during my four years as a student in the ASU School of Business," said Wahl in a recent A Day planning meeting.
After graduating he took his first job at Nationwide Lending Group out of Athens, GA where he eventually became branch manager. Then, in 1989 he made his way back to Augusta to join First Atlanta Bank, which later became Wachovia. In 2001, he joined Bank of America as market president and senior vice president of commercial banking. He rejoined Wachovia as community banker and senior vice president last year. Wahl says, "I attribute my success in business to the firm academic foundation I received at ASU".
Phil is married to the former Catherine Wade (BA - History '89) and they have two daughters, Olivia and India. When he's not spending time at home playing with the kids or cooking dinner, he's busy enjoying some time out on the golf course and becoming more involved in the Augusta Community.
He serves on numerous boards and civic organization in the area. Some of these include: Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Development Committee, University Healthcare System, Junior Achievement of the CSRA, and the Morris Museum of Art.
