Halfway through his college career, Shane Prince says he was in a rut.
The 2001 graduate needed a pick me up. It came in the form of Kim Davies, chair of the Department of Sociology.
“Dr. Davies created an exciting atmosphere that made me look forward to coming to class,” Shane, a criminal justice graduate, says. “She propelled me to graduation. I don’t know if she even knew how important her guidance and enthusiasm was to me.”
After graduation, Shane began working as a probation officer. Last Decemeber, he began working with the Augusta District Attorney’s Office as an investigator.
“My time spent at ASU has enabled me to pursue my lifetime career,” he says. “Class sizes were small, so everyone was able to interact with professors, but classes were big enough that there was exposure to a wide variety of opinions. That exposure – to different backgrounds and ideas – gave me a better understanding of the world and the ability to relate to all types of people.”
