Best memories of ASU:
- Working at Media Services - my first real work experience where I learned about various technologies and services. Promoting these technologies and services to students and providing quality customer service helped me even in my current career.
- Dr. Jarman, a computer science professor, gave me my first taste of professional leadership as the team lead for our senior software project.
Justin Weaver has a unique way of looking at his job.
"One of my favorite quotes is 'My job is to make everybody else's job easier,'" the Savannah River Site senior engineer says.
After graduating from ASU in 1998 with a degree in computer science, Justin received an internship from the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education at the site. His work was later published in the collection of SRS Research Intern Abstracts. He also has received the site's Vice President's and Engineering Achievement awards.
In 2000, Justin was hired by the site as an associate engineer and was recently promoted to senior status.
Some of his current responsibilities include supporting software system projects by interfacing with customers, preparing cost and schedule estimates, scoping user requirements, designing and developing creative software solutions, testing software and providing documentation. He also helps guide some of the younger engineers.
Outside of work, Justin enjoys a wide variety of hobbies, including learning new and various software technologies, playing video games, listening to techno and electronica music, gourmet cooking and bargain hunting. His motto is "live large for less." He also serves on the executive board for the National Society of Black Engineers Augusta Alumni Chapter, where he is both the chair of finance and chair of telecommunications.
Justin has been an active member of the ASU alumni association's board of directors since he finished his degree. He served as vice president for awards from 2003-2005.
"ASU is very important to the community," he says. "Here you get a quality education in a convenient location for a relatively affordable price. Getting my computer science degree at ASU gave me a strong foundation in the discipline that I use all the time in my career, especially with the ever changing technological landscape."
