As ASU's most popular major, biology often leads our graduates in interesting directions. Many go on to graduate school and enjoy successful careers, becoming teachers, health care professionals and nurses. But few follow the path of one distinguished ASU biology alumnus.
Dr. Paul Blanchard, an '87 cum laude graduate of then-Augusta College went on to obtain his doctor of medicine degree from the Medical College of Georgia. After completing a residency at the Carolinas Medical Center in North Carolina his career took an interesting turn. Dr. Blanchard enrolled at Wright State University in Dayton Ohio and earned a master's degree in aerospace medicine. His thesis there, Flight Attendants and Turbulence Injuries, was accepted into the FAA Civil Aerospace Medicine Institute Library in Oklahoma.
Today, he practices internal medicine at the West Chester Medical Group in Ohio and performs FAA Class 1, 2, and 3 pilot physicals. It's Dr. Blanchard's job to keep the friendly skies friendly, ensuring pilots are in the best health. Prior to his current position, Dr. Blanchard served as a physician in Gainesville, Georgia and Charlotte, NC.
