Continuing Education Offers Portable Training for Portable Careers
Denise Moore, operations manager in ASU’s Division of Continuing Education, recently made a presentation at Fort Gordon about Augusta State’s new online, anytime, portable training for portable careers—a government program that offers a complete solution for the military spouse. “The Career Advancement initiative is a landmark program that opens the door to our military spouses for portable careers,” she says.
“This is a national initiative to help train military spouses in ‘portable careers’ such as teaching, medical coding, IT certifications, and a number of other popular areas. Workers in high-demand portable occupations are able to pick up and move when spouses are reassigned, yet are still able to continue their career paths and futures.”
ASU is offering programs on the Department of Defense website dedicated to military spouses as part of the new Career Academic Accounts (CAA) program. Eligible military spouses can now go on the https://aiportal.acc.af.mil/mycaa/ website, register themselves for an account, choose a school and program, and obtain up to $6,000 over a two-year period to pay for educational endeavors.
Ms. Moore is working with the Fort Gordon Education Office, giving presentations to a number of family and spouse groups on post, and already has students approved and in online classes. As part of the ASU Continuing Education CAA program, tuition includes all materials, textbooks, and laptop. There is no reported end date to the program right now. As of today, ASU is the only local school listed on the website.
