Augusta State has set a new record in enrollment for fall 2009 with 7,064 students. The semester’s enrollment is more than a five percent increase from the fall 2008 semester.
“The economy has impacted our growth. Students who would have left the area to go to college are now staying closer to home,” says Katherine Sweeney ’82, ‘99, registrar and director of admissions.
The enrollment total includes more than 1800 freshman and new students and more than 5100 returning students to ASU. The expansion of recruitment can also be attributed to the enrollment increase.
“We have added additional recruitment in the Atlanta area, adding to our out-of-area enrollment, and the university continues its focus on the retention of our students,” says Ms. Sweeney.
Last year’s enrollment totals were 6,689 students of which 1684 were freshman and new students.
