About 'Picks of the
Week'
Anime
club members who regularly attend meetings are rewarded by having the
opportunity to screen anime of their choice, subject to the following
guidelines:
1. A rotation list for picks of the week will be
maintained by the club president, sorted by the following priority scheme:
i. Club president, club officers, and faculty
advisor.
ii.
Club members who are currently listed on the club's charter, sorted
(descending) by number of consecutive semesters of membership.
iii. Club members not
listed on the charter, sorted by date of first attendance (earlier first date
will have higher priority).
iv. In the event that a
full rotation cycle can not be completed during the fall semester, the rotation
shall reset at the beginning of spring semester. The rotation also shall reset each fall.
2. Members will be notified that they will be
eligible to make a pick of the week, typically two weeks before the date in
question. A 50-60 minute block shall be
allocated for each member's pick.
3. A member shall forfeit their pick of the week
in any of the following situations:
i. As of their turn in the rotation, the member has
not attended at cumulative total of at least 50% of the club's meetings during
that semester.
ii. The member fails to indicate their
chosen pick at least one week in advance.
iii. The
member is not present at the club either the week prior to their announced
pick, or is not present on the week of their announced pick, unless the absence
is deemed 'excused' by the club president.
4.
The member must possess a legitimate copy of the title they wish to show (no fansubs or DVD rips are permitted) or arrange for another
member to bring said media. Failure to
do so forfeits the pick. Typically the
first two episodes of the series should be shown.
5. Titles should be appropriate for a general
audience. The club president or faculty
advisor may deem a chosen title as inappropriate for a general audience. In such a case, an alternate pick will be
selected by the club member in question, subject to the above guidelines.
6.
Generally, ‘mass-market’ anime (along the lines of Bleach, InuYasha,
etc.) are not suitable for featured picks, as everyone has probably already seen
whatever their fill is of such shows. A
good rule of thumb is that if a show has more than 100 episodes, it is not
suitable as a featured pick.
7. In recognition of their distinguished prior
service to the club, Dr. Christopher Terry (former faculty advisor), and Mr.
Chris Tressler (alum and former president) shall have
the option of exercising an honorary pick during each rotation cycle, exempt
from the requirements in section 3.
