The mission of the Department of History and Anthropology is to help
students acquire the following:
-knowledge of the the origins, development and diversity of human cultures
and societies;
-appreciation of the study of the past both for its own sake and for the
ways in which study can promote the development of responsible citizenship;
-familiarity with the history of the United States and the rest of the
world;
-awareness of the nature and performance of historical scholarship;
-and the ability to think critically, speak coherently, and write clearly.
