Georgia - The Georgia College & State University women's tennis team
rolled to a 9-0 victory over Augusta State in a Peach Belt Conference match-up,
while the men captured their first conference win of the season in the 6-3 win
against the Jaguars . With the defeat the women's team drops to 7-10 overall,
1-8 in the PBC, while the men drop to 8-12 overall and remain winless in
conference at 0-7.The No. 6 ranked Lady Bobcats made quick work of the Lady Jaguars winning all three doubles to start the afternoon. GC&SU's No. 1 tandem of Luiza Biktyakova and Mia Paavilainen defeated ASU's Patricia Zurita and Hayley Bakker 8-0, while Caroline Lefevre and Anna Shchupak downed Patricia Lozano and Ana Skafar 8-2 at the No. 2 spot. Annika Persson and Kremena Vassileva won by default at No. 3 doubles.
In singles action, GC&SU's Biktyakova recovered from a first set loss to defeat #10 Skafar 2-6;6-4;6-1 at No. 1, while Paavilainen defeated Zurita at No. 2 with the 7-5;6-0 victory. Lefevre won at No. 3 against Bakker 6-2;6-2, while Shchupak downed Melissa Bruzzese in straight sets 6-0;6-0 at the No. 4 spot. Persson also won in straight sets 6-0;6-0 against Lozano at No. 5, while Vassileva won by default in No. 6 singles.
In the men's match, the Bobcats picked up wins at all three doubles spots to take the early 3-0 lead in the match. GC&SU's No. 1 team of James Gorin and Kris Popovic won 9-8 in a hard fought match against ASU's Zia Hai and Guillaume Payment, while Thomas Karlsson and Per Schartum-Hansen defeated Mathieu Leblond and Mike Vandenabeele 8-2 at No. 2. Bobcats Brandon Lee and Mikael Pettersson completed the doubles sweep at No. 3 with the 8-3 victory over Jackson Hubert and Raul Intriago.
In singles play, GC&SU took 3 of the 6 matches to seal the 6-3 win. At No. 1, GC&SU's Gorin fell 6-3;7-5 to ASU's Hai, while Intriago outlasted Schartum-Hansen at No. 2 in the 6-7;6-4;6-1 victory. Popovic defeated Leblond 6-1;6-1 at No. 3, while ASU's Payment downed Pettersson 6-1;6-4 at the No. 4 spot. Lee defeated Vandenabeele at No. 5 singles 6-0;6-1, while Mariano Cebrian won a hard fought match against Hubert 6-4;1-6;7-6 at No. 6.
