Women's Tennis Defeats USC Aiken, Falls to Armstrong Atlantic in PBC Tourney

SPARTANBURG, SC -- The Augusta State women's tennis fell to number one seeded Armstrong Atlantic State 5-0 in their second match in the Peach Belt Conference tennis tournament, hosted by USC Spartanburg. In their first match of the day, the eighth-seeded Lady Jags defeated ninth-seeded USC Aiken 5-3. With the loss, ASU moves on to face Clayton State (#4 seed) on Friday at 8 a.m.

Armstrong Atlantic swept ASU in doubles action before picking up two straight set singles wins. AASU's Caroline Crage defeated Norma Rovira 6-1, 6-0, while Maria Zevallos fell to Manuela Emmrich 6-0, 6-0. The rest of the singles matches were not completed. 

In earlier action against USC Aiken, ASU picked up two doubles victories, as Ana Skafar and Norma Rovira defeated Mayra Kaefer and Dominique Cassetori 8-2 and Patricia Zurita and Patricia Lozano defeated Elly Toth and Heather Thornton 8-4. In singles action, Skafar and Rovira each picked up straight set victories, while Zurita managed a three-set winner over Cassetori, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
