Tennis Claims Upset Over 29th-Ranked USC Spartanburg

SPARTANBURG,
S.C. -- The Augusta State women's tennis team scored an upset Thursday
afternoon, as they defeated 29th-ranked USC Spartanburg 5-4 at the USCS Tennis
Complex. The win brings the Lady Jags' record to 2-3 overall, 1-3 in Peach Belt
Conference play. With the loss, USC Spartanburg falls to 2-1, 0-1.
Augusta State took a 2-1 lead out of doubles play and won three singles matches to win 5-4. USCS had only five eligible players, so the Lady Rifles spotted the Lady Jags a 2-0 lead (one doubles match and one singles match) before play started.
The team of Ana Skafar and Patricia Zurita defeated Dasha Segenchuk and Zarah DeSilver 8-2, while Skafar and Zurita scored singles wins with scores of 7-5, 6-3 and 7-5, 6-0, respectively.
Augusta State travels to Farmville, Vir. on Feb. 21 to face off against Longwood College. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
