AUGUSTA, Ga. --
Former Augusta State baseball standouts Chris Demons and Dustin Taylor recently signed professional contracts with the South Georgia Peanuts, an independent baseball club in the newly-formed South Coast League.
A four-year starter in the outfield for ASU from 2003-06, Demons signed with the Peanuts on April 2. He has played in all 11 games, batting .194 with two doubles, a home run, six RBI and seven stolen bases in seven attempts.
Taylor, a three-year starter as a first baseman and pitcher, joined the club on May 7. Used primarily as a pitcher, he has made three starts, posting a 1-0 record with a 6.00 ERA in 15.0 innings, while hitting .429 (4-for-7).
The Peanuts, who are off to a 10-1 start, own a two-game lead in the SCL standings and have won four series in a row.
The South Coast League of Professional Baseball is an independent baseball league with offices based in Conyers, Ga. The South Coast League is fielding six clubs and they are slated to play a 90-game schedule that began at the first of May.
