Augusta State downed Anderson University 16-5 on Tuesday
afternoon at Jaguar Field. With the win the Jags improve to 6-6 on the
season, while the loss drops the Trojans to 3-11.
ASU jumped out on top in the first inning with two runs off of three hits started by senior Kevin Owens. Freshman Bryson Smith drove in an RBI in the second bringing the score to 3-0.
Anderson got on the board in the top of the sixth inning when Andrew Davis hit a two-run double to bring in Andrew Johnson and Clint Neville, making the score 3-2.
The Jags scored six more runs in the sixth inning when Smith hit a two-run double to centerfield. With Tyler Marzofka, Smith and Owens on base, sophomore Shannon Wilkerson hit a grand slam to bust the game wide open. Marzofka added a two-run homer in the seventh inning to bring the score to 11-2.
The Trojans answered back in the top of the eighth inning with a homerun by Neville and a two-run homer by Trent Still. But that wasn't enough for the Trojans, as the Jags knocked in five more runs in the bottom of the eighth. ASU got a two-run double by Alex Sickman followed by a RBI and unearned run from Justin Roberts and another unearned run by Alex Walker, bringing the score to 16-5.
Brandon Iverson received the win for the Jags, pitching 2.1 innings giving up only two hits. The Jags had six pitching changes with no pitcher giving up more then two hits. David Richardson got the loss for Anderson pitching 5.1 innings giving up nine hits and seven runs.
ASU is back in action tomorrow, Feb. 20 at 2:00 p.m. when they host
Coker in a non-conference game at Jaguar Field.
