BELMONT, N.C. -- Belmont Abbey racked up 19 hits and erased an early 3-0 deficit en route to 17-8 non-conference victory over Augusta State Wednesday afternoon at Abbey Yard.

Trey Summerlin, the second of five Abbey pitchers, earned the win after allowing two runs on three hits in two innings. ASU sophomore Tyler Godwin (0-1) suffered the loss after surrendering two runs on three hits in two-thirds of an inning.

ASU scored two unearned runs in the first inning and pushed across another in the third to open a 3-0 lead. The Abbey answered with three runs in its half of the fourth to knot the game at 3-all.

The Jaguars reclaimed the lead at 5-3 in the fifth on a two-run single from sophomore shortstop Tony Baker, but the Crusaders grabbed the lead back for good with a four-run fifth.

The Crusaders scored five times in the bottom of the sixth to blow the game open, taking a 12-5 lead, and added five more in the eighth. ASU plated single runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings, while sophomore rightfielder Shannon Wilkerson jacked his team-leading sixth homer to right-centerfield in the seventh.
