AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State downed Adelphi University 4-0, on Friday afternoon at Lake Olmstead in game one of a four game series.

The Jags plated a run in the bottom of the second when Shannon Wilkerson scored on a Panthers error to make the score 1-0.

ASU earned another run in the bottom of the fifth when Clay Haynes scored on a passed ball bringing the score to 2-0.

The Jags would hold off the Panthers and score two more runs in the bottom of the eighth when Jeremy Armstrong hit a two-run single to right field driving in Wilkerson and Kevin Owens, making the score 4-0.

For the Jags, Clay Haynes went 2-for-4 and Jeremy Armstrong went 1-for-4 with 2 RBI. For the Panthers, Robert Paccione, Rob DeGennaro, Mike Testani and Joe Marnino all had multiple hits.

Steven Voigt received the win for the Jags, pitching 8.0 innings with Kyle Payne coming in to close. Brandon Lanigan got the loss for Adelphi pitching 5.0 innings giving up three hits and two runs.

The Jags are back in action tomorrow, Mar.1, at 12:00 pm when they host a double-header against Adelphi at Lake Olmstead.
