Augusta State downed Adelphi University 8-0 in game one
and 7-4 in game two, on Saturday afternoon at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
In game one, Alex Walker singled in the bottom of the second to start the Jags off. Clay Haynes hit a sacrifice bunt advancing Walker to second. Walker advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on an RBI from Jorge Virguez, taking the lead 1-0.
Walker split the game wide open in the third inning with a grand slam to drive in Kevin Owens, Alex Sickman, and Haynes bringing the score to 5-0.
Tony Baker hit a single in the fifth inning to drive in Owens taking the score to 6-0. The Jags would hold off the Panthers scoring two more runs in the seventh with RBIs from Justin Roberts and Walker making the final score 8-0.
For the Jags, Owens and Shannon Wilkerson went 2-for-4 while Sickman went 3-5 and Walker went 3-for-4 with 5 RBI.
ASU's Brandon Iverson picked up the complete-game shutout, allowing only four hits. The Panthers' Mike McLasky got the loss giving up five hits and five runs.
In game two, the Panthers drove in a run in the top of first inning with an RBI from Ryan Boelson. The Jags answered back in the bottom of the first plating three runs. Baker hit a two-run double to right driving in Owens and Michael Fritz. Walker singled to centerfield driving in Baker to make the score 3-1.
Adelphi scored two more runs in the third with RBIs from Chris Weidlein and Bolelsen and another run in the fourth from Mike Mongiello, taking the lead 4-3.
The Jags booked a run in the fourth inning to tie up the score, and then took the lead in the fifth inning plating two more runs from Owens and David Barnes. ASU clinched the win in the sixth inning with an RBI from Wilkerson bringing the score to 7-4.
ASU Owens, Barnes and Walker all had multiple hits with Walker going 3-for-3. For the Panthers, Mike Testani went 2-for-4 and Boelsen went 3-for-4.
Jacob Watson received the win for the Jags, pitching 3.1 innings and giving up one hit. Mike Scudero got the loss for Adelphi, giving up seven hits and six runs.
The Jags are back in action tomorrow, Mar.2, at 11:00 a.m. when they close out their series with Adelphi at Jaguar Field.
