Augusta State defeated Adelphi University 13-1, Saturday
afternoon at Jaguar Field to close out a four game series.
The Jags pounded out 16 hits off of four Panther pitchers. ASU junior Adam Mathis received the win improving to 1-1 on the season. Mathis surrendered five hits in six innings and struck out three.
Mike Bartlett went 3.1 innings for Adelphi to take the loss. Bartlett gave up the seven hits and five runs to the Jags.
RBIs from Tony Baker and Logan Dempsey put the Jags up three in the first inning. Two more RBI in the fourth from Michael Fritz and Alex Sickman brought the Jags to 5-0.
Robert Paccione plated the only run for the Panthers in the top of the sixth. ASU answered back with a three-run homer by Shannon Wilkerson, followed by Clay Haynes hitting a two-run homer to put the Jags up 11-1
ASU closed out the game in the eighth inning with two more runs, from Matt Landis and Justin Roberts making the score 13-1.
The Jags return to action Saturday, Mar. 8, when they travel to UNC Pembroke Anderson in a Peach Belt Conference match up. The first pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
