Jaguars Earn PBC Honors
Amy Dumas, Bryson Smith named POTW

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta State senior Amy Dumas was named the Peach Belt Conference softball Pitcher-of-the-Week, while freshman third baseman Bryson Smith picked up baseball Player-of-the-Week honors, according to an announcement from the league office.

Dumas pitched the 14th perfect game in PBC history as ASU blanked Davis & Elkins 8-0, Sunday Mar. 16. The senior struck out 12 of the 15 batters who came to the plate in the five-inning game.

For the week, Dumas was 1-1, taking a loss in a 3-0 game to Adelphi in which she gave up one earned run and struck out 10. Dumas is currently second in the PBC in strikeouts and third in ERA.

Smith became only the 11th player in PBC history to have three home runs in a game as he sent four over the wall in five games last week. The freshman hit three home runs against West Liberty and also had eight RBIs in that contest which is tied for the third-highest single-game total in PBC history.

For the week, Smith hit .500 with a 1.136 slugging percentage, 10 runs scored and 18 RBIs. In a three-game series with #21 Armstrong Atlantic State, he hit .429 with a double and five RBIs as the Jaguars won two of three games. He scored the game-winning run in game one on a wild pitch as the Jaguars won 9-8. He struck out only once in his 22 at-bats, stole a base and had only one error at third base in 18 chances.

Baseball returns to action Tuesday when they take on Paine College at 3:00 p.m. at Lions Field. Softball continues play Wednesday, Mar, 19 at 2 p.m. when they hold Cancer Awareness Day against Georgia Southwestern at Jaguar Field.
