Sophomore Godwin, three ASU relievers combine on shutout

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta State jumped out in front of Paine College 4-0 on Tuesday afternoon and cruised to a 12-0 victory over the Lions at Lions Field.

Senior first baseman Kevin Owens upped his batting average to .408, going 4-for-4 with three doubles and four runs scored. Tony Baker went 2-for-5 with three RBI and Logan Dempsey drove in a pair of runs as well.

Sophomore righthander Tyler Godwin evened his record at 1-1 on the season with 6.0 innings of two-hit ball. He struck out seven and walked just one. Chris Greer, Patrick Lowe and Chris Tyler each worked an inning of hitless relief.

The Jags collected 14 hits and every starter had at least one hit.

ASU travels to Greenwood , S.C. , to take on Lander in a three-game, Peach Belt Conference series this weekend. The Jags and Bearcats will play a single game on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m.
