AUGUSTA,
Ga. – Erskine downed ASU 8-4, on Wednesday afternoon at Jaguar
Field in a non-conference match up.
The Flying Fleet opened the game with an RBI from sophomore second baseman Chas Anthony. The Jags then followed by knocking in two runs in the bottom of the first with RBI from senior Kevin Owens and PBC player-of-the-week Shannon Wilkerson putting the Jags up 2-1.
Erskine picked up two more runs in the second inning with a two-run double off of junior Keith Hill to take the lead 3-2.
A run in the fourth inning from Atlee Pearson and two more in the fifth from Chas Anthony and Ross Hanna put Erskine up 6-2.
ASU added two more runs in the eight inning when Owens stole home and sophomore Tony Baker picked up an RBI bringing the score to 6-4.
The Flying Fleet plated two runs in the ninth from Anthony and junior Matt Schneider to hold off the Jags 8-4.
For the Jags, Wilkerson went 2-for-5 with two doubles. For the Flying Fleet, Hill, Greg Huff and Anthony all went 3-for-5 at the plate and Tyler Layton went 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Erick Guest picked up the win for Erskine pitching 2.0 innings giving up four hits and two runs.
Chris Greer received the loss for the Jags, pitching 3.2 innings. ASU had multiple pitching changes including Tyler Godwin, Adam Mathis, Scott Strickland and closing pitcher Kyle Payne.
The Jags are back in action this weekend when they travel to Dahlonega, Ga. to take on the North Georgia Saints on Friday April 4 at 7:00 p.m.
