Clay Haynes hits two homeruns in loss

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – North Georgia College jumped all over the Jaguars, pounding out 15 runs to take the finale 15-4 and sweep a three-game series from Augusta State Monday afternoon in Peach Belt Conference action.

Augusta jumped on the board first in the second inning as Matt Landis singled up the middle to plate Clay Haynes to give the Jaguars an early 1-0 lead. North Georgia would not be down long however, as Kevin Morrison reached base to bring Andre Airich home to tie the game 1-1. Anders Oster would score later in the inning on an error to give the Saints a lead they would never relinquish.

North Georgia added three more runs in the third inning as Rob Flaniga, hit a three-run long ball to right field for a 5-1 lead.

Augusta State would add single runs in the fourth and sixth on a Haynes solo homer to left field and a Tony Baker RBI single, but the Saints would respond, this time with a five spot in the bottom of the fifth. Oster had his first career grand slam and Morrison had his second home run of the year to give the Saints an eight run lead at 10-2.

Craig Brisson added a single to bring two more runs home and make it 12-2. The Jaguars would answer in the eighth as Haynes belted his second home run of the day down the left field line to make it 12-3, but as they did all day, North Georgia answered in their next at-bat with three more runs to give the Saints a 15-4 win.

Michael Patton (5-1) picked up the win, lasting 5.2 innings and giving up five hits and two earned runs while striking out three. Scott Strickland (0-2) suffered the loss in 2.0 inning of work, allowing three hits and three earned runs while walking two.
