Jags Split With Pacers
ASU rallies for game two win over USC Aiken

AUGUSTA, Ga. – USC Aiken pounded out 17 hits to top Augusta State 10-5 in game one and ASU rallied for a game two win in Peach Belt Conference action Saturday afternoon at Lake Olmstead Stadium. USC Aiken improves to 33 -20 overall, while Augusta State moves to 24-20 overall.

After a two hour rain delay the Pacers got off to a quick start. Cody McMorris nailed a double to lead off, with Chad Jacobsen picking up the RBI. The Jaguars picked up two runs in the bottom of the inning with two RBI from Shannon Wilkerson and Alex Walker to take the only lead of the game 2-1.

USC Aiken tallied three more runs in the top of the second with a double from Nick Aranas, a single from Gary Owens and a homerun from Jamie Benjamin. ASU booked a run to close out the second inning, by Alex Sickman to take the score to 4-3.

The Pacers scored a run in the fourth off of an error, and two more in the sixth off of an RBI from Aranas and a homerun from Chris Grandinetti taking the Pacers to 7-3 over the Jaguars.

ASU tried for a come back in the eight inning plating two runs with a homerun from Sickman and a single from Tony Baker. The Pacers sealed the win scoring three runs in the top of the ninth with runs from Brad Johnson, Jamie Benjamin and Grandinetti.

For the Pacers, Benjamin went 2-for-5 with three runs and two RBI, while McMorris, Johnson, Jacobsen and Aranas all had multiple hits. For the Jags, Bryson Smith went 3-for-5 at the plate while Sickman went 2-for-5 with a homerun and an RBI.

Scott Wandless (7-1) took the win pitching seven innings and giving up eight hits with four strikeouts. For the Jags, Chris Tyler received the loss pitching seven innings.

In game two, the Pacers opened the inning picking up a run from McMorris. The Jags came back in the bottom of the inning scoring two runs from Michael Fritz and Smith taking a 2-1 lead that they would never give up.

ASU tallied two more runs in the second inning with a double from Wilkerson to start off the inning and an RBI from Fritz and Smith. Another big single in the fourth inning from Fritz would put the Jags up 5-1.

The Pacers managed to pick up run in the fifth inning from McMorris and one more in the eight inning off of an error, but the Jags held strong to shut down the #13 Pacers 6-3.

Fritz led the Jags going 3-for-4 at the plate, scoring three runs and collecting an RBI. Smith, Walker and Wilkerson all had multiple hits to aid in the win. For the Pacers, McMorris was 2-for-4 at the plate scoring two of the three runs.

Brandon Iverson took the win improving to 5-4 on the season allowing seven hits with three strikeouts. Dustin Tyra received the loss for the Pacers giving up 12 hits with one strikeout.

Augusta State returns to action tomorrow, Sunday April 13, when they close out a three game series with USC Aiken starting at 1:00 p.m. at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
