Augusta State falls 6-2 in Peach Belt action

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The USC Aiken Pacers held off the Jaguars in the final game of a three game series this afternoon at Lake Olmstead Stadium edging Augusta State 6-2.

The Pacers got on the board first in the second inning with a three-run rally. Runs from Ken Raborn, Nick Aranas and Gary Owens put the Pacers up 3-0.

The Jaguars battled through five innings scoreless, while the Pacers picked up three more runs. A walk for Chris Grandenetti to start off the inning was followed by a fielders choice play to put David Vitko on. An ASU error at second let Chad Jacobsen reach base resulting in USC Aiken's 6-0 lead.

ASU did not give up without a fight, with a lead off homerun in the sixth inning from Alex Sickman and a ninth inning homerun from Matt Debes to give the Jags two. A last minuet attempt wasn't enough for the Jags with the Pacers holding them off, 6-2.

For the Jags, Bryson Smith went 3-for-4 with a triple while Alex Walker went 2-for-4. For the Pacers, Cody McMorris led the way going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
