| Eighth-inning homer sparks Trojans past ASU |

S.C. – Clint Neville's two-run homer gave Anderson an 11-9 victory over Augusta State on the Trojans’ Senior Night Tuesday at Anderson Memorial Stadium.
Trailing 9-8 in the eighth inning, Derek Hipp started the Trojan rally with a leadoff single. Hipp moved to third on a botched pickoff attempt and scored when Matt Hill reached on an error to tie the game at 9-all. After a strikeout for the second out of the inning, Neville, one of five seniors honored for the Trojans, providing the game-winner.
Augusta State got on the scoreboard in the first on an RBI single by David Barnes to make it 1-0.
Anderson answered with two runs in the second on an RBI double by Matt Hill and a run-scoring single by Neville RBI single to make it 2-1 in favor of Anderson.
The Jaguars exploded for five runs in the second. The big hit in the inning was a three-run homer by Shannon Wilkerson.
Trailing 6-2, the Trojans notched one run in the third when senior Patrick West tripled and scored. After trading runs in the fourth to make the score 7-4, the Trojans scored four runs in the fifth on six singles, highlighted by a Neville RBI single, to take an 8-7 lead.
ASU regained the lead in the eighth with two runs on two hits and a Trojan error.
Jordan Oates earned the win for the Trojans, and Cory Welch picked up the save. Jacob Watson took the loss for Augusta State.
Anderson was led offensively by West, who was 3-for-5 with a triple, and by Neville, who was 3-for-5 with the game-winning home run.
ASU was led by Kevin Owens, who had three hits in five at bats including two doubles.
With the loss, ASU dropped to 25-22, while Anderson closed its regular season at 19-35.
The Jags host 30th-ranked Francis Marion in a three-game Peach Belt Conference series this weekend at Jaguar Field. A single game is scheduled for Saturday at 3:00 p.m., with a doubleheader slated for Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
