Saints take two from ASU in league opener

BaseballST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Flagler swept a Peach Belt Conference baseball doubleheader from Augusta State Saturday at Flagler Stadium. The twinbill marked the beginning of the PBC schedule for both teams.

The Saints edged ASU 6-4 in game one, rallying from behind with four runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

Junior outfielders Alex Walker and Kenny Smith paced the Jaguars with two hits each. Smith drove in a pair of runs and Walker and Tony Baker had an RBI each.

Jaguar starter Joah Evans surrendered 10 hits and three runs, recording five strikeouts and five walks in 5.1 innings. Chase Johnston (0-3) was charged with five hits and three runs in 1.2 innings and Zach Minter allowed a hit in one inning of relief.

The Saints (7-6, 2-0) outhit ASU 16-9 and took advantage of three Jaguar errors.

In game two, Flagler jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the first four innings and dealt ASU a 14-5 loss.

Baker led the Jags (6-9, 0-2) offensively, going 3-for-5 with two RBI. Tristan Toorie, Carl Burrow, Justin Appel and Evan Smith all collected a pair of safeties. Torrie, Appel and Smith each drove in a run.

The Saints touched up ASU starter Wilson Taylor (2-2) for nine hits and eight runs -- seven earned -- in 4.0 innings. Stephen Ramsey worked a scoreless inning while Josh Barks yielded four hits and five runs in 3.0 innings.
