AUGUSTINE, Fla. -
Flagler completed a three-game sweep of Augusta State Sunday afternoon, topping the Jaguars 9-5 in a Peach Belt Conference matchup at Flagler Stadium. The series was the conference opener for both squads.
The victory lifted the Saints to 8-6 overall and 3-0 in the PBC, while the Jags dropped to 6-10 overall and 0-3 in the league.
ASU junior centerfielder Alex Walker went 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in three of the Jags’ five runs. Tristan Toorie, Andy Onufrak and Justin Appel had the only other hits.
Flagler starter Johnny Gaines (2-2) allowed just five hits and registered eight strikeouts in 7.0 innings. He walked four and allowed all five runs. Tyler McKendree struck out two in two scoreless innings of relief.
Flagler overcame a pair of early one-run deficits and touched up ASU senior righthander Jacob Watson (1-1) for 14 hits and eight earned runs in 7.2 innings. Watson notched a pair of strikeouts against three walks.
The Saints took the lead for good with two runs in the fourth inning, then plated three more in the sixth for an 8-3 lead.
ASU travels to USC Aiken for a non-conference contest on Tuesday, March 2 at 6:00 p.m., at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
The Jags host Erskine and West Liberty on Thursday and Friday, March 4 and 5, at Lake Olmstead Stadium. The Jags take on the Flying Fleet at 6:00 p.m., Thursday and meet West Liberty on Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
