|ASU Closes Season With Road Win, 6-4|

Freshman righthander Scott Shipman worked a season-high 7.0 innings Wednesday night to lead Augusta State to a 6-4 non-conference victory over West Georgia at Cole Field.
The contest marked the season finale for the Jaguars, who wrapped up the 2010 campaign with a 16-31 record in their first season under head coach Chris Cooper.
Shipman (3-1) surrendered just five hits and two earned runs with four strikeouts against just one walk. After freshman reliever Aaron Lewis recorded one out, senior righty Jacob Watson closed out the game with 1.2 innings of scoreless relief, registering one strikeout and one walk.
ASU grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first on senior rightfielder Carl Burrow’s RBI-single to plate Kenny Smith, who drew a leadoff walk.
The Wolves jumped in front 2-1 in the fourth before ASU responded with three runs in the top of the fifth. Smith again sparked the rally, reaching on a leadoff single before stealing second. Senior second baseman Tony Baker singled through the left side to drive in Smith and freshman third baseman Cole Payne followed with a single to right. Junior centerfielder Alex Walker delivered a two-out, two-run single to left to plate Baker and Payne and give the Jags a 4-2 advantage.
Smith slapped a solo homer to left in the sixth to put ASU ahead 5-2 before UWG (13-41) pulled within 5-4 with two runs in the bottom of the eighth.
The Jags added a run in the ninth when Burrow drew a bases-loaded walk to score pinch-runner Phillip Anchors.
Smith, Baker, Payne and Burrow had two hits each, with Burrow and Walker each booking a pair of RBI. Smith also scored three times.
ASU outhit the Wolves 11-7 and had three stolen bases.
The contest marked the final game in the careers of Jaguar seniors Baker, Burrow, Watson and shortstop Evan Smith. (Box)
