Sutton Set To Join Diamond Jaguars
ASU Baseball gains transfer from Armstrong Atlantic State

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Augusta State head baseball coach Chris Cooper announced Tuesday the addition of Jake Sutton to the Jaguar Baseball program.

A 6-0, 155-pound shortstop from North Point, Fla., Sutton will have three years of eligibility remaining after transferring from Armstrong Atlantic State. As a freshman in 2010, he started in all 50 games for the Pirates and batted .256 with three doubles, a triple and 20 RBI. He posted a .945 fielding percentage and committed only 16 errors in 292 chances.

“This is a great pick up for us on both sides,” Cooper said. “Jake is very solid defensively with a strong arm and above-average range and he can make all the plays. He will prove his value on the offensive side with his ability to be a team guy by putting bunts down or hitting behind runners. I expect Jake to step right in and compete for the starting shortstop position.”

In his first year at the helm of the ASU Baseball program in 2010, Cooper guided the Jaguars to a 16-31 overall record. ASU is expected to return five starters and 28 letterwinners for the 2011 season.
