AUGUSTA,
Ga. – Augusta State dropped 11-6 to Coker on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference game at Jaguar Field.
With the loss, the Jaguars dropped to 2-3 overall, while the Cobras improved to 4-1 on the season.
For the Jags, freshman Zach Braux (0-1) received the loss, lasting 4.2 innings and gave up seven hits. Sophomore Robbie Downing relieved Braux in the fifth and only gave up one run on one hit. Relieving Downing was senior Jacob Watson who allowed only one hit. Junior Scott Strickland pitched the final two innings of the game and allowed two earned runs on five hits.
Junior Tristan Toorie led the Jags offensively with a 2-for-4 afternoon, while junior Kenny Smith had a hit with two RBI. Senior Carl Burrow, juniors Alex Walker and Casey Hanrahan, and sophomore Caleb Saggus each had a hit on the day.
ASU travels to Valdosta, Ga. over the weekend to take on Valdosta State in a three-game non-conference series. The Jags and Blazers meet in a single game on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 3:00 p.m., and then square off in a doubleheader on Sunday, Feb. 14 at 1:00 p.m.
