Jags Roll Over Aiken Tech
Smith's 18 points leads ASU over

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta State shot
69 percent in the first half Wednesday night
and cruised to an 84-53 exhibition victory
over Aiken Tech in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
Jaguar newcomer Alex Smith paced the
Jaguars with 18 points while Fred Brathwaite
tallied 13 points and a game-high seven
rebounds. Senior point guard Daniel Dixon
booked 12 points and canned three 3-pointers
and Caleb Brown came off the bench to add 10
points.
ASU outrebounded the Knights 43-17 and
went 17-for-24 at the free-throw line,
compared to just 4-for-7 for Aiken Tech. The
Jags jumped out to a 48-25 halftime lead
behind 14 first-half points from Smith as
ASU connected on 18-of-26 shots in the
opening half.

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta State
men’s basketball program is ranked No. 10 in
the nation, according to the NABC Coaches
preseason national poll.
The national ranking is the second of the
preseason for the Jaguars, who landed at No.
8 in the Division II Bulletin national poll

play host to a unique doubleheader Wednesday
night in Christenberry Fieldhouse when the
Jaguar volleyball and men’s basketball
programs are showcased.
The ASU volleyball squad, enjoying its
winningest season since 1999 under
first-year head coach Sharon Bonaventure,
closes out its home schedule by hosting
rival USC Aiken in a key Peach Belt
Conference match beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Madgen, Brathwaite named preseason
all-conference

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Peach Belt
Conference announced its men’s basketball
preseason All-Conference team on Friday, as
selected by the league’s head coaches.
Augusta State’s Ben Madgen and Fred
Brathwaite were named to the team along with
Georgia Southwestern’s Chris Rawls, Georgia
College & State’s Graham Martin and Freddy
Little of Montevallo.
