Dip MetressTyrekus "AJ" BowmanAugusta State, which will enter the NCAA Tournament as the 18th-ranked team in the nation, is hosting an NCAA postseason event for the first time in school history. The Jaguars are making their fourth appearance in the NCAA Tournament in school history and their third trip in the last seven years. The Jags, who are 1-4 all-time in the Big Dance, enter the South Atlantic Regional as the No. 1 seed for the first time ever.

The Jags qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 1978, in 2001 and again in 2002. ASU defeated Catawba 96-84 as a No. 6 seed in 2001 before falling to Winston-Salem State 65-48 in the round of 32 in Charlotte, N.C. In 2002, the Jags were eliminated 73-70 by Johnson C. Smith in Jefferson City, Tenn. ASU went 0-2 in the 1978 South Regional, falling to Central Florida and Livingston. ASU head coach Dip Metress is 1-2 all-time in three NCAA Tournament contests. He led Belmont Abbey College to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2002 and 2003.

ASU captured its first Peach Belt Conference regular-season title since 1998-99 with a 22-5 regular-season record and a 14-2 mark in league play. The Jaguars feature three PBC all-conference players, including PBC Player of the Year AJ Bowman, PBC Freshman of the Year Ben Madgen and sophomore all-conference center Garret Siler. Third-year head coach Dip Metress was named the PBC Coach of the Year as well. The sweep of the major awards was the third in the history of the PBC and the second by ASU, who also achieved the feat in 1999.

The Jaguars knocked off Georgia College & State 91-82 in the PBC Tournament quarterfinals before falling to Clayton State 72-69 in the semifinals on Sat., March 3. Bowman was an All-Tournament selection after scoring 45 points in the two games, including 26 vs. Clayton State.
