ASU To Host Senior Night
Volleyball closes out home schedule, men's hoops squad makes debut

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta State will play host to a unique doubleheader Wednesday night in Christenberry Fieldhouse when the Jaguar volleyball and men’s basketball programs are showcased.

The ASU volleyball squad, enjoying its winningest season since 1999 under first-year head coach Sharon Bonaventure, closes out its home schedule by hosting rival USC Aiken in a key Peach Belt Conference match beginning at 6:00 p.m.

The contest will also mark the final home contest in the careers of three ASU seniors. Jessica Howard, Emily Joye and Lindsey Weider will be honored during a special ceremony at halftime of the men’s basketball exhibition tilt with Aiken Tech.

The Jags, ranked No. 8 and No. 10 in a pair of preseason national polls, will make their 2009-10 debut under sixthyear head coach Dip Metress.

The winningest basketball program in the state of Georgia among all divisions over the last three seasons, ASU returns three starters and nine lettermen from last season’s 30-5 squad that advanced to the NCAA Tournament’s Final Four for the second consecutive season and was ranked as high as No. 3.

The tipoff of the Jags-Knights’ exhibition is slated for approximately 8:00 p.m., after the conclusion of the volleyball match. ASU officials are aiming to set an unofficial PBC attendance record on Wednesday. Last season, ASU’s volleyball matchup with USC Aiken drew a crowd of 313 fans, the largest to witness a Jaguar volleyball match.

Promotions including a salute to the soldiers of Fort Gordon and a pair of “Dash for Cash” contests are planned during the evening.
