AUGUSTA,
Ga. – Augusta State shot 69 percent in the first half Wednesday night and cruised to an 84-53 exhibition victory over Aiken Tech in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
Jaguar newcomer Alex Smith paced the Jaguars with 18 points while Fred Brathwaite tallied 13 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Senior point guard Daniel Dixon booked 12 points and canned three 3-pointers and Caleb Brown came off the bench to add 10 points.
ASU outrebounded the Knights 43-17 and went 17-for-24 at the free-throw line, compared to just 4-for-7 for Aiken Tech. The Jags jumped out to a 48-25 halftime lead behind 14 first-half points from Smith as ASU connected on 18-of-26 shots in the opening half.
The Jags shot 60 percent for the game and limited the Knights to just 20 percent shooting in the game.
ASU wraps up its exhibition schedule on Tuesday, Nov. 10 when the Jags travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide. Tipoff is slated for 8:00 p.m., Eastern from Coleman Coliseum. (Box Score)
